AGATES, a poetry journal published annually by the League of MN Poets, features members’ original works. The book is a perfect bound, 90-page collection of poems beautifully designed and edited by members. All members are encouraged to submit their work. The Reading Period for submissions is January 1st to March 1st.
Agates Submission guidelines are as follows:
- Previously published poems are accepted
- Agates accepts only poems and only from League members
- Poems must not exceed 32 lines including spaces; particularly long lines may count as two lines
- Choose Times New Roman 11pt font; spacing setting of 1.15
- Up to five (5) poems per submission period
- Include all of your poems in one document as a .doc or .docx file; begin each poem on a separate page within the document
- Include your name, phone number, postal address and email address in the upper right hand corner of your submission
- All poems except haiku or senryu must have titles
- Poem titles and author names will follow the standard accepted format of capitalization
- Proofread your work carefully
- If your poem’s punctuation breaks from convention, please include a statement of your intention, or it may be edited conventionally
- Poems are kept for one submission period only, so do submit your work each year
- Submit your work through Submittable (or email to MNgreatriverpoets@gmail.com with a subject line of Agates Submission)
- Submission deadline is March 1st

- Agates will no longer publish NFSPS contest winners unless they are submitted by the author
- If you would like to include where your poem was previously published, please do so in your submission; the credit line counts against the 32-line limit
