The Mississippi Valley Poets & Writers are hosting the Spring LOMP Convention and pleased to announce Matt Mauch as our Keynote Speaker. His latest book of poetry If You’re Lucky Is a Theory of Mine was published by Trio House Press. He is also the editor of Poetry City, U.S.A, curator of The Great Twin Cities Poetry Read, and teaches at the Normandale Community College A.F.A. program.

In addition to Key note speaker Matt Mauch, we have a variety of other speakers covering a broad range of topics. There is something for every interest in our breakout sessions. Jefferson Hansen will talk about experimental poetry in The Avant Garde. Learn about Writing to Heal from Wendy Brown Baez. Interested in telling your own personal story? Then join Evelyn Klein’s program on the Poetry as Memoir. And Mary Stein will discuss submitting work from a writer’s and editor’s perspective in a program called Nepotism Doesn’t Work.
We will also have the usual Poetry Critique Session for those who’ve submit poems with their registration and Open Mic as well. That evening will also be The Great Twin Cities Poetry Read where 30 some Minnesota poets will each read a poem. We have some fun activities planned for the next day as well. We’ll do Poetry Cut-Ups and play around with 100 Ways to Read a Poem at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel in the morning. Then, in the afternoon, we will return to The League’s roots to read poems from the past to the present at the historic Lowry Building in St. Paul where the first meeting was held 80 years ago. We hope you’ll join us for the celebration.
