League of Minnesota Poets
BLIZZARD WRITER’S POETRY RETREAT
WHEN: 4th weekend of January. Come Thursday, January 23rd. Check in time at 3:00 p.m. Pizza dinner for those arriving. We will do an OPEN MIC reading at Curiosi-Tea House at 1745 Commerce Drive, North Mankato 56003 at 7:00 p.m.
The Retreat will continue through 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 26, 2020 (Or who knows how long if we get snowed in!) Single day participation welcome as well.
WHERE: NEW LOCATION! The Lodge, St. Peter MN. 822 South 4th Street, Saint Peter. The Lodge is located close to Gustavus Adolphus College and Minnesota Square Park. We will have the house exclusively for LOMP retreat participants. Note, we have limited overnight space: Priority will be given to those members who travel from more than 30 miles away and to those who are first to pay and reserve a spot. You may have a roommate in your assigned room.
WHO: You! This retreat is for all LOMP Members who are interested in poetry. (Not a member? You can join LOMP by paying dues before the retreat. Go to: https://www.mnpoets.org/membership/)
COST: $80.00 for overnight retreaters for the entire weekend. $10.00 per day or $30.00 for entire weekend for those who are NOT staying overnight. Make checks payable to LOMP and mail to coordinator Sue Chambers at 57310 166th Lane, Good Thunder, MN 56037 on or before January 17th. Need a scholarship? Contact Sue to discuss as there are options open to you.
WHAT IS REQUIRED: 1. Each participant will bring some food/beverages to share. If you have food allergies or intolerances, be prepared to bring what you need.
2. You will be assigned to a breakfast, lunch or dinner crew to assist with food preparation. Let Susan Chambers, Coordinator, know if you are a morning person or a night owl, or if you have a preference for a certain crew. Being on a meal crew does not mean you have to plan the whole meal. All will be involved in clean up after each meal.
3. Bring a poetry program that is at least half an hour in length. The program can be anything that tickles your fancy–a physical activity that will stimulate writing; a writing workshop; a favorite author; a new form; a lecture; a special taped program that you want to lead a discussion on…the possibilities are endless. Joint programs are also permissible. We have access to projectors, microphones, flip charts and other equipment.
4. Bring plenty of your own poems to share at read-arounds.
