STUDENT CONTESTS



Minnesota students are encouraged to enter the 2007
NATIONAL MANNINGHAM STUDENT POETRY TRUST COMPETITION.
This contest is open to all Minnesota students in public, private, and parochial schools grades 6 through 12. Poems are first judged on a state level, then winning poems are submitted for national competition. For contest rules: send #10 SASE to:

The LEAGUE OF MINNESOTA POETS (LOMP) holds biannual meetings, supports regional chapters in Minnesota, and publishes the MOCCASIN anthology. Membership includes a subscription to LOMPLIGHTER newsletter and membership in National Federation of State Poetry Societies.   2. Make check payable to: LOMP CONTEST
  3. Enclose #10 SASE for contest results, if desired.
  4. Deadline: July 31, 2008 (postmark)
  5. Fees: LOMP members
    1. May enter categories #2 through #18: total fee $5
    2. If entering fewer than 3 poems: $1 per poem
    3. Category #1 Grand Prize fee: $1 per poem
    4. One poem per category, except #1: limit 6 poems
  6. Fees: Nonmembers
    1. May enter categories #2 through #17: $1 per poem
    2. Category #1 Grand Prize fee: $2 per poem
    3. One poem per category, except #1: limit 6 poems.
  7. Poems judged by qualified, non-Minnesota poets.


QUALIFICATIONS -- ALL ENTRIES:


  1. Must be original work of the contestant.
  2. Not have won a money award in a LOMP contest.
  3. A poem entered must be unpublished.
  4. A poem can be submitted in one category only.
  5. Limit one poem per category, except category #1.
  6. Sponsors may enter their own category.
  7. Poems should not contain art work of any kind.


FORMAT


  1. All poems must be titled, except haiku.
  2. Poems typed on one side of 8-1/2 x 11 paper.
  3. Make two copies. In upper left corner of both copies, indicate the category # and award. On second copy only, on the upper right corner: Your name, address, LOMP affiliation (if applicable).
  4. Poems will not be returned, but respectfully shredded.


WINNING CONTESTANTS


  1. Winners announced at LOMP convention in October.
  2. Winner's certificates and prize checks will be mailed.
  3. Poems will not be published.
